This may be the 1851 census record for James.
This may be the 1861 census record for James. This may be the 1871 census record for James. This may be the 1881 census record for James. This may be the 1901 census record for James. This is most probably the Birth Certificate for the child George in the 1851 census which gives his mother's maiden name as Longley. There is no record of the death of a George Marsden anywhere except Darwen, Lancashire that has the child being of the right age but George is not present in any subsequent census and would have only been 10 years old in the 1861 census. This implies, (to me), that he died very shortly after the 1851 census took place and, had he not been baptized - of which there is no record, he would most probably have not had his own plot and the records would therefore be more difficult to come by if at all. This is the marriage certificate of James Marsden to Elizabeth Longley in 1845 Upon looking at the 1851 census record a second time there is a Joseph Longley living with them as a lodger. This confirms that this James, this Elizabeth and this George are the same people who appear in these marriage and birth records. The question still remains as to whether this is "our" James Marsden.
